The Story of the Regiments - Between Wars

THE PERIOD BETWEEN THE WORLD WARS 1919-1939

Between the two World Wars Cameronian Battalions served in many lands, often under active service conditions - the 1st Battalion in Ireland, China and India, the 2nd in Iraq and Palestine, and both Battalions on the North-West Frontier of India.

The reorganisation of the Territorial Army in 1938 resulted in the 5/8th Battalion being converted into a Searchlight unit: but the rearmament programme, commenced when Hitler came into power in Germany in 1933, resulted in the revival of the 9th and 10th Battalions in 1939.
